Musculoskeletal Ultrasound imaging is an advanced non-invasive technology used by your physical therapist to assist in assessing your condition more effectively and guide your therapist to design the most appropriate treatment plan for you.

What is Point-of-Care ultrasound?

Point-of-care ultrasound examinations are performed using portable ultrasound machines wherever the patient may be, whether in a medical environment or at the scene of the injury. Point-of-care ultrasound is ideal for many in-office exams.

How long will the ultrasound exam last?

As a rule, musculoskeletal ultrasound exams are quick. Most exams take just minutes.

Is it safe?

Yes, absolutely. Clinical ultrasound is harmless and uses no radiation.

How does it work?

Using high-frequency sound waves (similar to sonar on a submarine), clinical ultrasound systems are comprised of a small probe attached to a computer device with a viewing screen.

The probe scans the area of the body by pulsing high-frequency sound waves. These sound waves reflect back to the probe and are relayed to the ultrasound system where they get converted to an image.
